RMS is a relatively new risk management
company started in early 2000 by Northeast Mutual Insurance Company
of Cando, ND. The company was started as a reaction to a series
of high loss ratio years and an internal audit which concluded that
an unacceptably high percentage of the company's risk enforcement was
substandard in nature.
The company employs four full and two part-time highly trained Risk Managers. Three
of the full-time Risk Managers hold certificates from the Rocky Mountain Home
Inspection School and are certified home inspectors with the American Institute
of Inspectors. Our inspectors/adjusters have been trained by Grinnell Mutual
Reinsurance Company and have also attended seminars sponsored by Northeast Mutual. We
are fully digitized and capable of importing our inspection and claims reports
by email, memory stick or on compact disk.
In year 2004, RMS completed 1,317 units of work for Northeast Mutual and ten
other mutual companies in North Dakota. Our capacity as of June 1, 2005
is at approximately 1,800 units per year. This estimate
does not include calling in back-up help in case of a catastrophic weather-related
loss.
RMS has worked diligently the last six months in streamlining its operation with
the specific purpose of providing services at higher quality and better prices
to our sister mutuals. We have strategically placed risk managers in Bismarck,
Fargo, Devils Lake, Langdon, Cando, and LaMoure, ND, in order to cut road time
and mileage and have also recently converted to 100% digital photography and
reporting. We will, however, still accommodate those customers wanting
reports on hard copy and printed photos.
Our work specifically consists of claims adjusting and on-site property risk
reviews. RMS will evaluate the quality of the components of the property--both
dwellings and outbuildings. We will measure and calculate replacement cost
figures, identify hazards, audit farm blanket machinery, check electrical services
panels, chimneys, water supply lines, furnaces and water heaters located in all
buildings. We are also open to modifying our inspection protocol in the
event that such a measure is necessary.
